Did the Russian Prez make a visit to the former Russian territory of Alaska for ceasefire talks, or was he looking over another piece of land he plans to get back for Russia one day?
The history, then the Future
Alaska was Russian territory until 1867. In 1867, Russia sold Alaska to the United States for $7.2 million to relieve its financial strain after the Crimean War and because it feared losing the territory to Britain in a future conflict anyway. Russia was getting little economic return from Alaska’s remote fur trade.
Fast forward to 2025, and Alaska is a state with huge natural resources, and valuable fishing rights. And anyone who controls both sides of the Bering Strait controls the Arctic shipping route.
The Future: 2032
A bankrupt Russia makes a dying-gasp bid to control the Bering Strait, the strategic waterway between Russia and the USA. For America, it's a threat to national sovereignty. For Russia, it's a matter of life or death. For hot-wired naval aviator, Karen 'Bunny' O'Hare, it's about to be a bad day at the office.
